Bhai Vir Singh was a poet, scholar, novelist, and spiritual force who spearheaded the late 19th-century Punjabi literary renaissance (the Singh Sabha movement). He breathed fresh lease of life into regional literature, moving it away from traditional narratives to highly expressive modern prose, writing timeless epics like 'Sundri' and 'Rana Surat Singh'. In recognition of his vast contributions, he was awarded the Padma Bhushan in 1956.

First published on 17th November, 1899, by Bhai Vir Singh Ji, Khalsa Samachar is one of the oldest Sikh weekly newspapers. For generations, it has served the Panth through Panthic news, Gurbani, Sikh history and teachings of the Sikh faith.
Bhai Vir Singh Sahitya Sadan was established in Delhi in 1958 in the memory of Bhai Vir Singh, with the vision of carrying forward his literary and cultural legacy. The foundation stone of the present building was laid in 1972 by Shri V. V. Giri, the then President of India.

This sacred tree, brought from Sultanpur Lodhi, was planted at Bhai Vir Singh Sahitya Sadan to commemorate the 550th Prakash Purab of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji. It was planted by Dr. Manmohan Singh, Former Prime Minister of India, and His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama, symbolizing the timeless values of peace, compassion, harmony, and universal brotherhood inspired by Guru Nanak Dev Ji. Today, this tree stands as a living reminder of their shared tribute to the Guru's eternal message for humanity.
