In order to promote research programmes, the Library of Bhai Vir Singh Sahitya Sadan, which was placed at the disposal of the Institute, has been strengthened. The extant collection of the Library contains over 35,000 titles on different subjects. It has been further enriched by acquiring xeroxed copies of dissertations and research monographs from various universities at home and abroad.
Private collections have also been added to the Reference Library. Notable among these are collections of late S. Satindra Singh, Dr. Gopal Singh, Giani Ishar Singh Nara, Dr. Amrik Singh and Dr. J.S. Neki. The Institute is making efforts to acquire personal collections of other eminent scholars relevant to our research work. Rare photographs and documents relating to the Akali Movement collected from various repositories in India and the United Kingdom by Dr. Mohinder Singh have also been gifted to the Reference Library of the Institute. More than 1400 transparencies of the relics of the Sikh Gurus, Maharaja Ranjit Singh, old historic buildings, forts and palaces have recently been added to the extant collection. Recently rare collection of late Prof. Ravinder Kumar has also been gifted to the Library.
